Adult Bible Study is taking a break for the next two weeks. I look forward to getting back into the study as we pick up our next character found in the New Testament. However, we are going to take a freebee side tour. NO EXTRA CHARGE! We will take a little journey to put us in the proper framework of this next character.
Since Genesis, we have seen studying earlier characters the Israelites recognized God’s great power and they feared the Lord. Yet shortly after vowing to follow His statues, they would fall away from Him and often searched after other gods. God, often thru his prophets, called them to repentance. They pleaded with God to free them from their oppression. God does so but tells them to keep His commandments. They vow to do so and then the pattern repeats all through the Old Testament.
At the close of the Old Testament, we find the Book of Malachi. Although the urging of Haggai and Zechariah had brought the completion of the temple (516 b.c.), this had not produced the messianic age many expected. Silence follows for four hundred years.
